DVRs should not have existed. We should’ve all recorded “Friends” with our PCs to watch at our leisure.
Alas! Despite being conceptually similar, TVs and computers were technically incompatible. The only people with digital recording power were that dentist/veterinarian couple — and they never watched anything anyway!
It was a cosmic injustice.
But common sense prevailed eventually. The technologies converged, and the products that thrived on incompatibility died.
Today, finding information for the enterprise has the same disease. BI searches structured data. Search engines query unstructured content. They even use different terms!
You should be able to “find companies with a minimum $10 billion market cap and committed to employee diversity,” but how?
Not with a better TiVo.
